One of the most prestigious and recognized luxury car brands, Jaguar was founded (as the Swallow Sidecar Company) in 1922 originally to manufacture motorcycle sidecars.
Despite William Lyons’ achievements, the company began to head towards bankruptcy after his retirement in 1972. The company changed hands several times over the next few years in repeated efforts to salvage it and was eventually purchased by Ford in 1989, and then Tata Motors in 2009.
